Coming from a long line of fabulous cooks, Dothan, Alabama, resident Lisa Pierce has perpetually had a passion for uniting folks over good food. “I’ve always enjoyed the pleasure of providing for other people,” she says. “It’s just fun. You know, everything happens around your table. It just kind of brings people together.”

When someone gifted a meal through a home-delivery food provider to her daughter, a new mother of triplets, it struck up an idea. “My daughter said, ‘Mom, you could totally do this,’” Pierce recalls. It took about a year before Pierce decided her daughter was right. Though she just started Southern Spoon Dothan in recent months, it has been gaining traction quickly. About 500 area residents belong to her Facebook group, with 300 on her email list. Yet, Pierce says humbly, “I’m not a professional chef; I just like to cook.”

In addition to working in the interior design field, Piece cooks two days a week for those who place orders, delivering to their homes ready-to-go meals like spicy shrimp-and-grits with gouda and bacon, inside-out ravioli and gumbo. From comfort foods to clean-eating hits, these dishes require no prep work, aside from perhaps popping the disposable trays in the oven. “The purpose of Southern Spoon is for families to have that time together,” Pierce explains. “Not missing out on family time in the evenings because time is so valuable.”

Here, Pierce shares some of her favorite recipes that focus on the fresh flavor of lemon. Give them a try when gathering with those you love this spring ...  [subscribe to read full article and see more photos]
